Novel anticoagulants were first used for thromboprophylaxis after orthopedic surgeries, including total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty, and existing studies have reported that their efficacy and safety are not inferior to those of low molecular weight heparin. Rivaroxaban has been approved for adult patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgery to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE); and for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in adults, reducing the risk of DVT recurrence and pulmonary embolism (PE) after acute DVT. Atrial fibrillation is a common arrhythmia, with a prevalence rate as high as 10% among people over 75 years old. The blood of patients with atrial fibrillation tends to stagnate in the atrium and form thrombi, which can dislodge and cause stroke. Rivaroxaban has been approved and recommended for adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism.
