Melitracen HCL

Model:10563-70-9
Melitracen Hydrochloride is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) with a unique anthracene-derived structure, featuring a dimethylamino propylidene side chain and a dimethylated central ring system. The molecular architecture of Melitracen Hydrochloride enables its activity as a potential dopamine D1/D2 receptor antagonist, distinguishing it from other TCAs that primarily target serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake.

Melitracen Hydrochloride is a tricyclic antidepressant with a distinct anthracene-based scaffold and dopamine receptor antagonist activity. As a hydrochloride salt, Melitracen Hydrochloride offers improved aqueous solubility and stability, making it suitable for pharmaceutical formulation and research applications. The mechanism of Melitracen Hydrochloride involves potential antagonism of dopamine D1 and D2 receptors, which may contribute to its antidepressant and analgesic effects. In clinical practice, Melitracen Hydrochloride is often combined with the antipsychotic flupenthixol for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, anxiety, and depression, leveraging the complementary pharmacological profiles of both agents. The unique pharmacological profile of Melitracen Hydrochloride makes it a valuable tool for studying dopamine receptor-mediated mechanisms in neuropsychiatric and pain research.

Bioactivity

Melitracen hydrochloride (Thymeol) is a potential dopamine D1/2 receptor antagonist with antidepressant effects.

In vivo studies

A single oral administration of imipramine or melitracen leads to significant and persistent mydriasis in mice. The mydriatic effect of melitrazine is more pronounced and longer-lasting. Melitrazine is more effective in terms of behavioral excitation. A single oral dose of melitracen reduces catecholamine levels in the brain stem, cerebral cortex, spleen, and adrenal glands. In rats that received daily administration of melitracene for 13 and 15 weeks, there were no significant changes in catecholamine levels in the brain stem, cerebral cortex, and spleen. However, epinephrine levels decreased slightly.
