Polyoxyl 15 Hydroxystearate is a novel non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier used as a solubilizer in formulations of compounds with low water solubility. Polyoxyl 15 Hydroxystearate enhances the aqueous solubility of Class 2 and 4 (BCS) lipophilic molecules and can also increase the permeability of medium-sized biological molecules/drugs across epithelia. As an excipient, Polyoxyl 15 Hydroxystearate is frequently used in preclinical testing of drugs, mainly for intravenous and other parenteral applications. The solubilizing capacity for tested drugs increases almost linearly with increasing concentration of Polyoxyl 15 Hydroxystearate, due to the formation of spherical micelles even at high concentrations.
